CONCRETE

Concrete is a key focus material for reuse, recycling and decarbonisation. It is the most used solid material in the world, accounting for close to 8% of the world’s total CO2 emissions. Global cement manufacturing represented 1.57 billion metric tonnes of CO2 in 2023 and this is forecast to grow to 3.8 billion tonnes per year by 2050. Additionally, concrete has a significant relationship to the degradation of ecosystems and coastlines due to raw materials such as sand (silica) and lime extracted to produce cement.
